The Cool Season Trial program at Colorado State University is designed to evaluate the capability of various Pansy and Viola varieties to overwinter in the Northern Colorado climate, as well as to evaluate the plants for floriferousness, growth habit and pattern stability. The trial is also considered to be a Cool-season Crop Overwintering Trial because other genera, such as Delphinium and Dianthus, can be entered into this trial. Each year the entries in this trial are planted in late October and grown until the following May when the space is needed for the annuals. Evaluations are made in late spring, after which time results will be posted below.
